J is for Journey – #AtoZChallenge on #wellness

I’m about to commit a crime. It’s the worst kind of offence in the writer’s manual. I’m going to quote you a cliché. Are you ready to read it? This will not shock your socks off, but clichés are such for a reason. Brace yourself:

Life is a journey between birth and death. Maybe you are more familiar with just “life is a journey” Did you just hear someone singing, “I just wanna enjoy the ride. The night is still young…” Not? Okay, maybe that was just me.

Perhaps I should  let Miley Cyrus explain it to you.

“There’s always gonna be another mountain.
I’m always gonna wanna make it move.
Always gonna be an uphill battle.
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose.
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about whats waitin on the other side.
It’s the climb.”

Life is about the journey. Whenever we reach a point, which we may have thought was this place wanted to be at, we will get that tingling urge “there must be more out there.”

What would you miss?

Life’s journey may get a fresh meaning to anyone suffering from depression. Sometimes we reach a point when we have convinced ourselves that everyone would simply be better off without us. Someone once told me “it’s not about whether they would miss you when you are gone. It’s about what you would miss if you were gone.” This really put in a shift in perspective that I needed. I can honestly say that much better off, due to this revelation.

Think about it? What would you miss? What in life’s little pit stops would make the up-hill battle worthwhile? Perhaps seeing your child walk down the aisle. Or holding your first grandchild? Perhaps the little snuggles you get each night? The laughs you have with friends? Yes, I’m absolutely telling you to find the silver linings. Those bright sparks that will happen in your near or distant future. Only you would know.
Take the good moments and treasure them. Take the bad instants and learn from them. Take each minute and experience it. The good, the bad and the ugly. The journey.

  1. I feel grateful you posted this today. I’ve been struggling with a lot of depression lately. I’m dealing with a lot of physical, mental, and emotional stress. Thanks for the reminder to take to stop once in a while and enjoy the precious moments.

    1. Waiting around, is also part of the journey. It’s during those waiting around moments that we can enjoy the subtle “now” moments like watching the birds in the sky or the leafs dancing in the wind. 😉
