When you put a seed into the ground and water the soil, you sometimes find that a little plant will spring up. You can continue to give the plant some water and hope that it will become a fruit-bearing tree, or a pretty flower or something. Now sometimes, the seed won’t germinate. But just because there isn’t anything visible above the ground, it doesn’t mean the plant isn’t growing.
You just keep on keeping on and eventually you find some seeds will sprout. It may take years before there is any kind of fruit, shade or other benefits you get from sowing seeds and watering the plants. It may not even be within your lifetime. You keep on sowing seeds and watering your ground because you hope that someday it will be of benefit to yourself or someone else.

We cannot force someone to hear a message they are not ready to receive, but we must never underestimate the power of planting a seed.

Shining Seeds, (the name of this Blog) is a metaphor for positive thoughts. The thoughts and feelings we have negative or positive impact those touched. When we put them into writing, it is as much a seed planted in our own mind as it is also a seed planted in the mind of those who have read them.

However, let’s face it! Bad things happen to good people. All this positive thinking we read about these days in the secular (New Thought / New Age) will not change that. I then look up to the mountains. Does my strength come from the mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven and earth and the mountains.

Christianity teaches us to renew our mind daily. We do so by reading and studying the bible. We also spend time in prayer. When we do so, over time we develop new ways of thinking.

So, if by now it’s not bluntly obvious, I am a Christian. But don’t get me wrong here. Jesus did not die on the cross, so that I can have a religion. He died so that I can have a relationship with God.

I’m a Christian, but I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I mess up. But God’s Grace is bigger than my sins.

In Spirit and in Truth

The tagline of this Blog reads, “in Spirit and in Truth.” This comes from the Gospel of John chapter 4.

 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

(John 4: 23-24 – KJV)

When you read Romans chapter 1, you can see that worship becomes a way we live our lives each and every day.

So I encourage you, my brothers and sisters, because of God’s compassion for you, to dedicate your bodies (dedicating all of yourselves, set apart) as a living offering that is holy and pleasing to God. This is the logical way to worship. Don’t follow the ways of this world; instead be transformed by the spiritual renewal of your mind so you can demonstrate what God’s will really is—good, pleasing, and perfect.
